Understanding Policing of Human Trafficking in Gauteng Province, South Africa: The Phenomena, Challenges and Effective Responses

Human trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes perceived to be a serious and growing problem worldwide. depressing phenomenon that affects many people across globe. This study attempts determine phenomena human trafficking, identify existing challenges policing this scourge suggest possible effective responses. was carried out utilising qualitative approach. Forty interviews were among officials deployed in Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), South African Police Service (SAPS), Department Home Affairs (DHA), Social Development (DSD), Gauteng Provincial Office, as well with victims regarding their views experiences on stakeholder’s involvement combating investigating trafficking.
 The key findings indicated are corruption, lack motivation commitment combat limited awareness information about Africa, also clear strategy response by stakeholders successfully investigate, prosecute incarcerate perpetrators further capacity, resources training deal trafficking. Based findings, author provided, recommendations such as; utilisation advanced technology use intelligence-led strengthen work stakeholders, better education including improved strategies; social media tool strengthening enforcement responses reporting techniques.
